Looking for a new job?
These biotech and pharmaceutical companies are growing quickly and offered some of the highest wages in the industry last year.
Experts are expecting a wave of job resignations this year, as people reassess their lives following the pandemic. Surveys show that anywhere from 25% to 40% of workers are thinking about quitting, according to Axios.
The drug industry isn’t excluded from that. Experts were already warning before the pandemic that biotech and pharma companies were growing faster than the number of scientists and researchers looking for jobs. Investors have poured record amounts of money into the industry, which could fuel more hiring.
So, life science workers have the advantage.
Insider created a list of the top drug companies that are growing the fastest and pay employees the most.
We analyzed changes in headcount at more than 150 leading drug companies to identify the fastest-growing firms of 2020. Several of these companies, including BioCryst Pharmaceuticals and Zogenix, told Insider that they are continuing their hiring this year.
We also assessed compensation, and found 20 firms that paid more than $217,000 to their median employee.
The analysis includes all drug companies listed on two leading biotech indexes, the SPDR S&P Biotech ETF and iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF, as well as a handful of multinational pharmaceutical giants. Only companies commanding a market value of at least $1 billion were included.
